This is my latest project. The two Pelican cases each hold 20 Ah 24V NiMH which gives me about 50 miles range with the TARN geared hub motor. This little motor weighs only 5 lbs and does a great job of pushing my 200 lbs and 75 lbs of bike to 25 on the flats and climbs a 5% hill at 15-17, a 10% at 10, and will not stall on a 15% hill with a lot of pedaling. The Cruzbike is my first recumbent, and i am now a big "bent" fan..The cases are securely attached to the bike with a custom bracket and retained securely by the seat. The Cycle Analyst is mounted on a modified reflector bracket. These little motors are rated 300W output with 85% efficiency, and I am running it with a modified controller that provides up to 700W. I have run it hundreds of miles and it seems to be quite reliable and the efficiency seems pretty good just based on the performance. My controller is adjustable, so I could turn the power down to 200W for places where that is the legal max assist power. Unfortunately they only sell these motors in quantity. I have since replaced this motor with the Ezee geared hub motor, which is slightly larger and much more powerful. ![]() |
